Launch of Atok Thusong Service Centre and sod turning of a
bridge, community hall and water sanitation

26 November 2007

Thusong Service Centres (TSCs) are one-stop, integrated community
development centres, where members of the public get government services under
one roof.

TSCs aim to empower communities, especially the poorest and most
disadvantaged, with access to government information, services and resources.
TSCs seek to equip people in a manner that allows them to contribute to their
own and the nation's growth and development. The centres help bring government
closer to the people.

The Atok TSC in the Fetakgomo municipality has 11 offices, two ablution
blocks, a library, a boardroom and four storerooms. The centre was built as a
result of an agreement signed in 2004 by Anglo-Platinum mine and Eskom rural
development. The centre caters for the whole of Lepelle-Nkumpi and surrounding
areas. The departments of Home Affairs, Labour, South African Social Security
Agency, and South African Police Service render services daily except for Home
Affairs which renders only on Wednesdays.

Eskom and have contributed R1,5 million and R2 million respectively in the
building of the centre. Anglo-Platinum mine has contributed R35 million to the
building of a bridge, water sanitation and a community hall in Sefateng
village.
