Limpopo Agriculture to host World Food Day and World Rural Women's Day
celebrations, 15 Oct

Provincial World Food Day and World Rural Women's Day

10 October 2007

The Limpopo Department of Agriculture in collaboration with the Ministry for
Agriculture and Land Affairs and other provincial departments will hold the
provincial World Food Day and World Rural Women's Day celebrations under the
theme: 'The right to food: rural women produce and provide.' The aim of the
celebrations is to intensify public awareness of the world food problem and to
heighten solidarity in the struggle against hunger, malnutrition and
poverty.

These celebrations are also considered a practical way of obtaining
recognition and support for the multiple roles of rural women who are mostly
farmers and small entrepreneurs. Awareness will also be created about food
security interventions available within government.

The programme for the day will commence with a human chain march from
Sekororo Hospital to the showground led by the Minister for Agriculture and
Land Affairs, Lulama Xingwana and the MEC for Agriculture in Limpopo, Dikeledi
Magadzi. The former will also deliver a keynote address at the event.
