Media conference on land ownership and use by non-South
Africans

The Department of Land Affairs invites members of the media to attend a
media conference where a panel of experts, commissioned by the Minister for
Agriculture and Land Affairs Thoko Didiza, will hand over a report on their
investigations on land ownership and use by foreigners in South Africa.

Last year Minister Didiza appointed a 10-member panel of experts, chaired by
Professor Shadrack Gutto, Director of the Centre for African Renaissance
Studies at Unisa, to:
* Investigate the nature, extent and impact of the use, acquisition of and
investment in, South African land by non-South Africans;
* Investigate and recommend how Government can mitigate any negative impact
emanating from such use, acquisition and investment; and
* Investigate international practices on the issue of land ownership by
foreigners and recommend the options most suitable to South Africa.
