Labour on prohibition notice on construction company

Construction company slapped with a prohibition notice

13 April 2007

The Department of Labour has served a prohibition notice against a
construction company following an accident that resulted in a worker sustaining
serious injuries. The accident happened when the section of new residential
development in Lynnwood, Pretoria, collapsed on top of the worker. He suffered
injuries to the head and leg.

The prohibition notice prevents further construction until a formal probe by
the department has been completed. Preliminary investigations revealed that
some rocks were falling but no measures were taken to prevent such action by
usage of wire mesh.

The matter has also been reported to the Compensation Commissioner.
