Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana is to visit the People's Republic of
China on Sunday at the end of the 298th session of the International Labour
Organisation (ILO) governing body meeting in Geneva.
Minister Mdladlana will be hosted by his counterpart Tian Chengping,
Minister of Labour and Social Security.
The visit by the Minister to China is a follow up to the trip to South
Africa by the Vice Minister of Labour and Social Security Zhang Xiang in
October 2006 where an extension of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was
signed by the two Ministers.
The two countries agreed to co-operate in the following areas:
* small business development, with specific focus on promoting small, medium
and micro enterprises and stimulating job creation
* re-employment of retrenched workers through applicable social plans,
hydroponic farming
* labour market policies and institutions and any other areas as may be
decided.
The delegation will further have a meeting with the youth federation to
discuss challenges faced by youth of today, as well as meet the labour and
employer representatives in China.
