Mysterious fire burns the Department of Labour offices
5 December 2006
Beneficiary services have been disrupted after the Department of Labour
offices in Durban were burnt down in a mysterious fire in the early hours of
this morning.
The affected floors are seven and eight which processes the Unemployment
Insurance Fund (UIF) and the Compensation Fund (CF) claims. The extent of the
damage is not yet known.
Following the incident, staff were asked to go home. Nobody has been
hurt.
The Durban office has promised to move claims processing of the UIF and CF
to the Durban Labour Centre so that services are not disrupted.
The fire department and forensic experts are investigating this.
