Labour on compensation payments

Lion victims' families receive their compensation
payments

The families of two security guards mauled to death by lions at a Free State
game farm last month, have received their compensation payments from the
Compensation Fund.

The guards, Jacob Ntinyane Poo and Motlalentoa Ben Tats were on duty at the
Farm Game Lodge outside Henneman when the two beasts that had escaped from
their enclosure attacked them. Their bodies were found about 50 metres from
their workstations.

The payouts have taken place while the Compensation Fund is currently
embarking on a week-long "Service Imbizo" in the Free State, as part of its
drive to accelerate service delivery and wipe out payment backlogs to
beneficiaries.

Based at the labour department's provincial office in Bloemfontein since
yesterday (26 September), the Imbizo seeks to ensure up-to-date payments to
medical and other services until Friday, 29 September.

The main services rendered during the Imbizo are medical payments on the
spot of all claims that have all the necessary documentation, adjudication of
all claims, answering of all compensation queries as well as the promotion of
the usage of the Compensation Fund Call Centre (0860 105 350) as well as Labour
Centres.

The campaign will then move to the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal provinces
before the end of the year.
