L Shope-Mafole to launch Youth Information Society and Development

Director-General Lyndall Shope-Mafole will officially launch
the Youth Information Society and Development programme

In celebration of the 2007 Youth Month, the Director-General of the
Department of Communications, Ms Lyndall Shope-Mafole, will officially launch
the Youth Information Society and Development (ISAD) Programme at Mdantsane
Indoor Sports Centre in East London.

The launch will be held as follows:

Venue: Mdantsane Indoor Sports Centre, Qumza Highway, Mdantsane Township East
London, Eastern Cape Province

The Youth ISAD Programme is one of the programmes in the National ISAD Plan,
developed by the Presidential National Commission on ISAD, aimed at developing
South Africa as an inclusive Information Society while contributing towards
addressing the challenges of poverty and unemployment amongst the youth.

The initiative is a joint venture between the Presidential National
Commission on ISAD, and the National Youth Commission.

The Programme is aimed at:
* assisting young people to access opportunities in the Information
Communication Technology (ICT) sector
* creating awareness among young people on the role of information and
communications technology (ICT) in improving their lives and those around
them
* empowering the youth through the use of ICT to address their developmental
challenges.

The launch forms part of the Youth Festival facilitated by the National
Youth Commission taking place at the Mdantsane Indoor Sports Centre between 14
and 16 June 2007.
