L Johnson to renovate Home of Comfort Children's Care Center in Kokstad,
7 Dec

MEC at work renovating orphanage

6 December 2007

The MEC for Public Works, Mrs Lydia Johnson, will do minor repairs and
renovations at the Home of Comfort Children's Care Center in Kokstad on 7
December 2007.

In support of the 16 Days of Activism of Prevention of Gender-based Violence
Against Women and Children, the MEC has decided to spend this day to work and
renovate this orphanage center as an expression of her love for the children,
but more importantly, as an ordinary citizen who cares for the most vulnerable
members of our society.

The MEC will be joined by the First Lady of the Province, Mrs Zama Ndebele,
and the MEC for Arts, Culture and Tourism, Ms Weziwe Thusi. MEC's initiative
comes after a recent incident in which elders at a home in Nkandla lost their
lives to a fire, as a result of poor infrastructure, and maintenance of the
home.

The MEC is calling on private businesses to also lend a helping hand on this
day, as part of their Corporate Social Investment. Some individual
entrepreneurs have indeed heeded to this call, and therefore a joint initiative
to renovate the hospice is planned.

Members of the media are invited to cover and witness this event.
