Correctional Services' symbolic cleansing of its female centres
to be in Pretoria

The Deputy Minister of Correctional Services Ms Loretta Jacobus will
tomorrow 25 August lead a special ceremony to re-dedicate all female
correctional centres at the Pretoria management area, Potgieter Street, as part
of the Department's celebration of the 50th anniversary of the historic women's
march of 1956.

Correctional Services invites your good institution to come to witness and
also cover this very important tribute to these heroines with a recommitment to
advance gender struggles and make correctional centres places of hope for new
beginnings.

The Minister, Deputy Minister, National Commissioner, management and staff
of Correctional Services working with partners will celebrate the triumphant
spirit of the gallant South African women who defied the imprisonment and
brutality they faced and began the journey towards gender equality,
development, social justice and peace.

The theme of the event is "an age of hope, a national effort to empower
women for correction, rehabilitation and social reintegration of
offenders".

Correctional Services joins the nation saying:
