The Minister of Minerals and Energy, Mrs Lindiwe Hendricks, invites you to
the African Ministerial Conference on Hydropower and Sustainable Development
from 6 to 9 March 2006 at Sandton Convention Centre. About 25 African Ministers
are expected to attend including the World Bank, African Development Bank,
Donor Agencies and the International Hydropower Association (IHA).
The conference, which is hosted in conjunction with the Department of Water
Affairs and Forestry, seeks to address the positive and negative impact of
hydropower as a renewable source of energy on social, economic and financial
development of African countries. The conference will further investigate human
capacity and availability of water and energy resources in Africa and
environmental impact associated with hydropower.
The conference will be open to the media with a few closed Ministerial
sessions.
