The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport has committed the months of
November and December to pay tribute to all victims of road crashes by
embarking on a remembrance campaign in all regions under the theme
"Siyabakhumbula". MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Bheki
Cele, together with transport portfolio committee members and other road safety
ambassadors will attend the commemoration of its two fallen Road Safety
Ambassadors, Lebo Mathosa and Jabu Khanyile.
The late musicians Mathosa and Khanyile were ambassadors of Road Safety and
they featured in the Department's road safety awareness CDs aimed at creating
awareness to all road users.
The special accolade is in recognition of their contribution toward saving
lives. The two were active in preaching the gospel of road safety and recorded
albums, collaborating with the likes of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Boom Shaka,
Mthunzi Namba, Deborah Frazer, Mandoza, Phuzekhemisi and many more.
There will be live performances by Singing for Joy featuring Mthunzi Namba,
Phuzekhemisi, Mdu Masilela, Bayete and Mandoza.
The service will be held at Durban Exhibition Centre (Hall 2) this Thursday,
23 November 2006, at 12h00.
