As the Department of Public Works is mandated with the provision of
infrastructure accommodation for the State and maintenance of government
properties, the Real Estate is expected to encourage youth and women
participation in the public sector, property market.
The role then means that our major stakeholders are contractors and
consultants within the property and construction sectors. The KwaZulu-Natal
Department of Public Works is therefore hosting Women in Property and
Construction Summits.
Women in Property Summit
The summit hopes to contribute in increasing the number of previously
disadvantaged property owners. The delegates will also be encouraged to pursue
other business opportunities related to Public Sector, property management and
development, administrative etc.
Women Construction Summit
Taking a look at the construction industry at large, it becomes clear that
this is an industry that has been dominated by the well established male owned
companies. The purpose of the summit is to provide the platform to share
knowledge, experience, strategies and recommendations on how effectively the
department can assist women with interest in the construction industry whilst
assisting those that are facing challenges within the sector.
Programmes for 2007/08 for both summits will be presented as some of these
programmes will benefit women.
