KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Cabinet statement 26 October

The Cabinet of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government held its ordinary
weekly meeting today, Wednesday, 25 October 2006, at Telkom Building, 300
Langalibalele Street

The Cabinet approved the construction of the new Parliament Complex at the
portion of Townhill Hospital site. The Provincial Treasury and the Department
of Works were mandated to consider all forms of arrangements to finance this
project, including Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and the disposal of other
Government assets.

Monumental Chapel

The Cabinet also approved the drawings of the Monumental Chapel to be built
in KwaCeza in Commemoration of King Dinizulu. The Monumental Chapel is where
His Majesty King Dinizulu, prayed to the Christian God.

Repatriation of the remains of Moses Mabhida

Furthermore, in line with the Premier's announcement during the State of the
Province Address in 2004, the Cabinet approved the holding of events to
repatriate the remains of Moses Mabhida.

KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Sibusiso Ndebele, together with the Mabhida family
and other stakeholders, has been involved in the painstaking process of
bringing the remains of Moses Mabhida back to South Africa for reburial.

In 2002 President Thabo Mbeki posthumously bestowed the Order of Baobab to
Moses Mabhida who played a prominent role in the liberation of South Africa and
as a leader in exile.

KwaZulu-Natal Alumni Campaign

The Cabinet also approved the hosting of KwaZulu-Natal Alumni Campaign in
Cape Town on 3 November 2006. The campaign was launched with a successful
function held in Sandton, Gauteng province, on 31 May 2006. To date a list of 1
500 KwaZulu-Natal successful Alumni-Ebandla names has been compiled and has
members in KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Cape Town and the United Kingdom (UK).

KwaZulu-Natal Older Persons Summit

Finally, the Cabinet approved the holding of the KwaZulu-Natal Older Persons
Summit on 14 November 2006. In April 2005 the Office of the Premier established
the Office of the Rights of Older Persons with the Human Rights Chief
Directorate. This office is responsible for the co-ordination and monitoring of
the respect, promotion and protection of the rights of older persons. The
summit will be attended by 500 people from all over the province. In this
summit the Premier will launch the Senior Citizen's Forum.
