KwaZulu-Natal to host Springbok rugby team, 28 Oct

KwaZulu-Natal goes all out for the Boks

26 October 2007

The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government in conjunction with the eThekwini
Municipality will roll out the red carpet for the Springboks when they tour
Durban this Sunday (28 October 2007).

The province will host the boys in green and gold in a victory celebration
in honour of the Springboks achievements in winning the IRB Rugby World Cup
2007 in France last Saturday (20/10/2007).

The provincial government, eThekwini Municipality and the South African
Rugby Union have worked together on a parade route that will enable most people
to see the world champions.

On Sunday (28 October 2007) our world champions will leave the Elangeni
Hotel at 9h00 and make their way on an open bus for a celebratory parade around
Durban. At 09h30, KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sibusiso Ndebele accompanied by KZN MEC
for Sport and Recreation Amichand Rajbansi as well as eThekwini Deputy Mayor
Logie Naidoo will do a greeting after which the Premier will deliver an address
at the Durban City Hall (City Hall steps on the Smith Street side of City Hall,
opposite the Playhouse).

Members of the public are encouraged to attend, proudly sporting their green
and gold, and show their support at the victory celebrations on Sunday (28
October 2007).

"On behalf of the government and people of KwaZulu-Natal, we are extremely
proud of the spectacular performance by the Springboks at the Rugby World Cup
Final in France, and particularly the fact that a number of the players hail
from the province of KwaZulu-Natal. We also want to commend the spirit of unity
displayed by the entire nation. The Rugby World Cup was played on 20-10 (20
October). As we head towards the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup let us enhance this
spirit of unity," said Premier Ndebele.

Media are invited to attend. Please note picture opportunities.
