Programme Focus this week 5 to 9 November
5 November 2007
The World AIDS Day activities kicked off today with the KwaZulu-Natal
government departments focusing on the Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP) in
their respective departments.
This is part of a week long campaign that will promote EAP within government
departments. The Department of Health launched theirs today at their
headquarters at Natalia Building in Pietermaritzburg encouraging staff to get
tested for various conditions and diseases.
The campaign is co-ordinated by the Office of the Premier and seeks to
encourage all government employees to take the lead in the prevention of
diseases including those of lifestyle. Through this campaign we encourage
government employees to get tested for blood pressure, diabetes, HIV and AIDS,
tuberculosis (TB), cancer, etc. at no cost.
This will go a long way in the fight against the scourge of HIV and AIDS and
other disease conditions that can be prevented. With the recent outbreak of TB
in the province, the campaign will assist in clamping down on this deadly
disease. We educate staff members to know the symptoms of TB and to get early
treatment as TB can be cured.
A number of build up events are planned during this month including a march
to be led by the Premier involving all MECs in government. The campaign will
culminate to the World AIDS Day on 1 December 2007 to be commemorated in
Amajuba District on this day.
The World AIDS Day theme is: Stop AIDS! Keep the Promise! It starts with
me!
