A body of 13-year-old girl, Thuli Zulu and that of an adult male,
Ndodayithengwa Zulu were this morning recovered after an old mine collapsed and
caved in at Nongoma in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
The discovery of the two bodies this morning brings to four the number of
people killed in this tragic incident. Bodies of two females, Nomusa Zulu and
Ngenzeleni Zulu were recovered yesterday afternoon. A team of rescue workers
from the Emergency Medical Rescue Services had to call off the search and
rescue operation yesterday evening due to poor visibility.
They resumed the search and rescue operation at first light, which has led
to the discovery of two more bodies. It is believed the deceased are from the
same family. The search and rescue operation has since been called off as there
are no reports of other people who were at the mine when the accident
occurred.
