KwaZulu-Natal Health to celebrate International Day for Older Persons
during Social Development Month, 1 Oct

International Day for Older Persons, KwaMshweshwe Sports

The Minister of Health Manto Tshabalala-Msimang, Premier, Acting
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Mkhize, Health MEC Nkonyeni, Social Welfare and
Population Development MEC Radebe and Councillors will commemorate the
International Day of the Older Persons at Ezinqoleni, Ugu District on Monday, 1
October 2007.

The Departments of Health, Social Development and Home Affairs have
organised various services to be rendered to older persons at the event. The
services include consultation and screening for diseases, and providing
information on social grants and relevant identification documents required.
The services will be offered from 08h00. The formal programme starts at
10h00.

The theme for this year's International Day for Older Persons is 'Addressing
the Challenges and Opportunities of Ageing: Empowering Older Persons.'

As a country, we are committed to strive towards empowering older persons so
that they can face their many challenges with greater ease and success. This
year's event is evidence of our firm commitment as the Office of the Premier,
the Department of Social Development and the Department of Health to work
together to ensure that all senior citizens receive all forms of support.
