KwaZulu-Natal’s First Lady to handover sewing machines and
sports and recreation equipment to women in prison

The First Lady of KwaZulu-Natal Province, Mrs Zama Ndebele, will on Tuesday,
22 August 2006, visit the New Hanover Correctional Centre to hand over sewing
machines and different sports and recreation equipment to the women
incarcerated in this correctional centre.

Mrs Ndebele will be accompanied by KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Arts and Culture,
Mrs Weziwe Thusi, Head of Department (HOD) for Community Safety and Liaison,
Mrs Yasmin Bacus and other women in KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature.

The women in prison is one of Mrs Ndebele's sustainable projects aimed at
empowering women in prison with skills to enable them to enter the mainstream
economy when they come out of prison.

This will be Mrs Ndebele's second visit to the women serving time in New
Hanover Correctional Centre. Her first visit was during her birthday on 25 June
2006 where she celebrated with them.
