KwaZulu-Natal has excellent teachers. This was once again proven at the 2006
National Teachers Awards ceremony on Thursday night when KZN teachers walked
away with two first positions, one second and two third positions in five of
the eight categories.
KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC Ina Cronje, who attended the function, said she
is extremely proud of the KwaZulu-Natal teachers, who have again excelled at
the National Teachers' Awards ceremony. "What was exceptional about
KwaZulu-Natal was the number of schools that entered groups in the different
categories. This is indicative of the team spirit at those schools. It was most
encouraging to see that the winning teachers represented the demographics of
KwaZulu-Natal. The message is clear: KwaZulu-Natal teachers are ready to
excel!"
In the category "Excellence in Secondary School Teaching" Mr Ngogi Mahaye of
Velangqye Secondary was crowned as the winner. Also scooping a first position
in the Inclusive Education and Special Needs Teaching was Ms Beauty Ndovela of
Ithongasi Public Primary School.
In the Secondary School leadership category the Little Flower team won the
second position. The team members are Mr John Yunus Fazell Vezasie, Ms Wendy
Lesley Scott, Mr Lucian Curtis Bok, Mr Moses Govender and Ms Free Queen Bongiwe
Zulu. Taking the third position in the Excellence in Primary School Teaching
was the ML Sultan Team from Estcourt. The team consisted of Ms Jacqueline
Dulcie Stabisile Gwala, Mr Kevin Govender and Ms Angie Pillay. Ms Tasneem
Rajack (Phoenix Heights Primary School) won the third position in the category
of lifetime achievements award.
