Rainy weather and bad road conditions could not stop KwaZulu-Natal matrics
today, 10 October 2007, from writing English Additional Language; the paper
with the largest number of candidates (126 404) in KwaZulu-Natal. When the
vehicles of principals of five schools got stuck in the mud on a dirt road in
Inkandla, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education hired a heavy four by four
to deliver the question papers. The examination was delayed for one hour but
all the candidates could write their examination.
A total of 20 671 candidates wrote the first paper of English Primary
Language Higher Grade and 7 151 candidates wrote English Primary Language
Standard Grade. One thousand five hundred and sixty five (1 165) students wrote
Introduction to Criminology.
