School athletes to compete in KwaZulu-Natal

Primary school athletes from all corners of KwaZulu-Natal will compete
tomorrow, 2 March 2007 and on Saturday, 3 March 2007, at the King Park Stadium.
Each of the 12 districts of the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education will be
represented by 120 athletes, which brings the total to 1 440 athletes.

Athletics are one of the prioritised codes in the National School Enrichment
Programme and it is administered by the Co-curricular Support Services
Directorate in the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education.

The competitions started on school level, then moved to ward, circuit and
district levels. The best boys and girls athletes will be selected from the
provincial competitions for schools to represent the province in the National
Championships. The provincial competition for secondary schools will be held on
15 March 2007.

The educators from all the 12 districts have volunteered their services in
the organisation of the tournaments. They also assist in team management.

The Department of Education is working jointly with the following
stakeholders:

* KwaZulu Natal Athletics
* KwaZulu Natal Department of Sport and Recreation
* KwaZulu Natal School Sport Association.
