Geluksdal
22 March 2007
Gauteng MEC for Social Development Kgaogelo Lekgoro will host foster parents
and fostered children during an event to be held at Geluksdal in Ekurhuleni.
About 1 000 people are expected to participate in the event where they will
interact with officials from the department about their experiences. They will
also share experiences on how to deal with challenges that they overcame in the
past on foster care.
"In the past year we have been struggling to crack the backlog on foster
care. We have managed to bring it under control and would want to increase
community education initiatives on understanding the challenges of orphans and
vulnerable children. Also given that there is an increase in child headed
households, the department wants an understanding of the other options
available and the events hosted as part of the human rights month will assist
in deciding how to deal with challenges," said Lekgoro.
The event will be held as follows:
Date: Saturday, 24 March 2007
Time: 09h00 15h00
Venue: Geluksdal Stadium, corner of Uittog and Geluksdal Street, Geluksdal
This event will precede a foster care workshop which the department will
host at Cedar Park on Friday, 30 March 2007. Details on the event will follow
at a later stage.
