Gauteng MEC for Social Development Kgaogelo Lekgoro will on Wednesday, 10
January 2007, give school uniforms to poor children in the province.
This is in line with the Bana Pele programme, which aims to ensure that
children in Gauteng receive better services from government. Most child
beneficiaries are from severely poor backgrounds.
The provincial Department of Social Development intends to distribute school
uniforms to 18 000 beneficiaries by the end of this month. A further 57 000
uniforms will be distributed to beneficiaries by the start of the next
financial term.
