families
16 April 2007
Gauteng MEC for Social Development, Kgaogelo Lekgoro is calling upon Gauteng
faith-based organisations (FBOs) to help pray for the restoration of
families.
This comes in the light of an increased number of child abuse cases, rampant
crime and women abuse as well as children falling victim to drug and alcohol
abuse.
Many South African families are in crisis because of these factors and it
impacts negatively on their ability to sustain themselves and their families.
This negative reflection also spills over into society.
Some of the challenges are related to poverty, unemployment, lack of basic
services and poor infrastructure. The HIV and AIDS pandemic, increase in
substance abuse and abuse of family members has all created a general trend in
the moral decay of our communities. Add to this the changes in the structure
and functioning of the family it is evident that the challenges faced by South
African families require urgent intervention.
As part of the intervention drive, Lekgoro will attend a service at the
Regina Mundi Church in Soweto where he will make a call for the restoration of
families in the community.
The service will take place as follows:
Date: Sunday, 22 April 2007
Time: 09h00 to 11h00
Venue: Regina Mundi Church, Soweto
Members of the community and the media are welcome to attend.
