Date: 23 March 2007
Time: 12h45 (media briefing)

Venue: International Convention Centre, Cape Town

Sweden and South Africa, as the first co-chairs of the Gender Justice
Initiative will co-host the Meeting on Gender Justice. The meeting will focus
on three priorities: joining gender and justice, strengthening regional
co-operation and identifying best practices. The Ministers of Justice and
Ministers of Gender from 11 conflict-affected African countries; such as
Angola, Sudan, Sierra Leone, Burundi, Liberia and Rwanda; have been invited to
participate. The purpose of the meeting is for the Ministers and high-level
government representatives to meet and share experiences and thoughts to
identify gaps, challenges and opportunities to promote Gender Justice and the
participation of women within our legal systems. Vital to promoting a programme
for gender justice is co-operation on both regional and international levels
and strengthening solidarity within and among countries in Africa.
