The National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Jackie
Selebi, extends an invitation to the media to attend the passing out parade of
1 789 police trainees to be held on Friday, 22 December 2006.
Five hundred and fifty one females and 1 238 males have successfully
completed the first phase of their two-year training, which is six months of
Basic Training Learning Programme (BTLP) at the SAPS Pretoria West Training
Institution. The trainees also underwent a gruelling street survival programme,
which is presented to empower them to deal with life-threatening situations,
which they may encounter in the daily execution of their duties.
