Pretoria Transport Minister Jeff Radebe has expressed shock on the news of
the 27 missing crew members that are still missing out of the 33 involved in an
incident when the Vessel MV Alexandros T sank yesterday. The vessel went
missing over 300 nautical miles off Port Alfred on the Eastern Cape Coast and
was on route from Brazil to China.
"I would like to convey a message of support to families of the missing crew
members, and I also appreciate the work that is being done by the rescue
missions in searching for survivors,â said Minister Radebe.
The Alexandros T has completely sunk approximately 285 nautical miles off
Port Alfred. The Maritime Rescue and Co-ordination Centre (MRCC) and the
National Ports Authority (NPA) are co-ordinating the Search and Rescue
operation. The Air-Force C-130 is due on the scene today and the salvage vessel
Smit Amanda is expected on the scene on Friday.
