Kicking off the campaign, the Minister will officially open the
International Pier of the OR Tambo International Airport, a R535 million
extension of the international terminal building at the airport. This milestone
is an indication of infrastructural developments ahead of the 2010 Soccer World
Cup and further enhances South Africa's position as the gateway to Africa.
The official launch will be attended by provincial Transport MECs, senior
government officials, Board chairpersons and CEOs of State Owned Entities and
Agencies together with members of the community.
The Transport Month campaign is an annual feature on the calendar of the
Department of Transport and is one the platforms and vehicles through which the
department engages directly with its stakeholders.
A calendar of events and activities to be undertaken by the Minister and the
department throughout the month of October will also be announced during the
launch.
