Africa and Switzerland

Transport Minister, Jeff Radebe together with Her Excellency, the Head of
the Swiss Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Ms Doris Luethard, will sign
a Bilateral Air Services Agreement on behalf of the governments of the two
countries.
With the initial Air Services Agreement between the Union of South Africa
and Switzerland, signed in 1959, a need was identified for modernisation due to
the many changes that have occurred in the aviation environment during the past
48 years. Switzerland, as part of the European Region, has been identified as
an important market in terms of the Department of Transport's Airlift Strategy.
