Transport Minister, Jeff Radebe will give a keynote address during the
African Railway Systems Professional Conference on interconnection,
interoperability and complementarity of African railway networks, to be held in
Johannesburg. The conference will be held under the auspices of the African
Union.
The two-day conference brings together experts and specialists in rail
transportation from across the Continent and the globe who will deliberate
among others, on the following issues:
* overview of the state of railways in Africa
* railway interconnection in Africa, the need and ongoing initiatives
* railway interoperability in Africa
* strategies for railway development in Africa in the 21st century
* international co-operation, a key lever for railway development in
Africa
* meter-gauge networks and various development options.
