Shortages, Marumo Moerane, kick-start the investigation
31 January 2006
The Chairperson of the Investigation Panel into the Fuel Shortages, Adv.
Marumo Moerane (SC), met with the South African Petroleum Industry Association
(SAPIA) Board of Governors on Tuesday, 31 January.2006.
The purpose of the meeting was for the Chairperson to introduce himself and
outline the process that would be followed.
Adv Moerane indicated that a notice would be published in the Government
Gazette and print media calling upon persons with information relevant to the
terms of reference to make submissions to the panel by the 21 February
2006.
âThe process would be a co-operative one, and not adversarial. What would be
paramount to the enquiry are the interests of the country as a whole, inclusive
of government, industry and the consuming public. The investigation would be
concluded as expeditiously as possible with minimum formality but without
compromising the quality of the end product,â said Adv. Moerane.
The panel will endeavour to conclude its investigation by the end of March
2006. Other members of the panel will be announced after consultations between
the Chairperson and the Department of Minerals and Energy while the Department
will provide Secretarial Services.
SAPIA welcomed the investigation and indicated its willingness to fully
co-operate.
