The Deputy Chief Electoral Officer of the Electoral Commission (IEC), Mr
Mosotho Moepya, said in Pretoria today, 28 September 2006 that the African
National Congress won all six of the wards contested in the municipal ward
by-elections of 27 September 2006.
Voter turnout varied between 5,82 percent and 48,04 percent with an average
of 29,78 percent.
The new African National Congress councillors in the Eastern Cape are:
* Cecil Hluphekile Bobotyane in Ward 3 in Emalahleni [Lady Frere] �
EC136;
* Novuyolwethu-Mary Sikafungana in Ward 11 in Elundini [Mount Fletcher] �
EC141; * Thamsanqa Stanley Vimba in Ward 27 in Qaukeni [Flagstaff (Ingquza
Hill)] � EC153.
In KwaZulu-Natal, Vuma Muziwondile Wilberforce Mdluli is the new councillor
in Ward 4 in KwaDukuza [Stanger] � KZ292.
In North West the two new councillors are:
* Alfred Mokone in Ward 13 in Madibeng [Brits] � NW372
* Thabo Mokapela in Ward 7 in Merafong City [Carletonville] � NW405
