The Deputy Chief Electoral Officer of the Electoral Commission (IEC),
Mosotho Moepya, said in Pretoria today (23 August) that seven of the nine
contested wards went to the African National Congress with the remaining two
going to the Democratic Alliance in the municipal ward by-elections which took
place yesterday.
Voter turnout varied between 12,03% and 52,57% with an average of
29,54%.
The new councillors for the African National Congress are:
* Victor Thandisizwe Stofile in Ward 13 in Mbhashe (Idutywa) Municipality �
EC121, Eastern Cape
* Mesuli Douglas Ngqondwana in Ward 13 in Nyandeni (Libode) Municipality �
EC155, Eastern Cape
* Vincent Kunju in Ward 57 in eThekwini (Durban Metro) Municipality � ETH,
KwaZulu-Natal
* Sipho Antony Makhaye in Ward 3 in Govan Mbeki (Highveld Ridge) Municipality �
MP307, Mpumalanga
* Maphoisa Lucas Mkhabela in Ward 2 in Thaba Chweu (Sabie) Municipality �
MP321, Mpumalanga
* Sibongile Nelly Shabangu in Ward 18 in Nkomazi (Nkomazi) Municipality �
MP324, Mpumalanga
* Jody Sefudi in Ward 13 in Madibeng (Brits) Municipality � NW372, North
West.
The two new councillors for the Democratic Alliance are both in
KwaZulu-Natal:
* Edwin Victor Baptie in Ward 5 in Umdoni (Scottburgh) Municipality �
KZN212
* Russell John William Meyer in Ward 7, also in Umdoni (Scottburgh)
Municipality � KZN212.
