The Chief Electoral Officer of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC),
Adv Pansy Tlakula, said in Pretoria today (29 June) that the African National
Congress, the Democratic Alliance and the Independent Democrats each won one
ward in the municipal ward by-elections which took place on Wednesday.
Voter turnout varied between 54,04% and 24,45% with an average of
38,35%.
The new councillors are:
* Simanga Clefort Manana of the African National Congress in Ward 22 in
Newcastle [Newcastle] Municipality � KZN252, KwaZulu-Natal
* Johan Aucamp of the Democratic Alliance in Ward 7 in Thaba Chweu [Sabie]
Municipality � MP321, Mpumalanga
* Conrad James Poole of the Independent Democrats in Ward 27 in Drakenstein
[Paarl] Municipality � WC023, Western Cape.
