Independent Communications Authority on increase in postal
tariffs

Increase in postal tariffs

5 February 2007

Johannesburg: The Independent Communications Authority of South (Icasa)
hereby gives notice on the increase of postal tariffs for 2007/2008. The
application for the 5,5% general increase was lodged with the Postal Regulator,
now the postal division within ICASA in November 2006. ICASA approved an
average general increase of 4,1% for national tariffs. This means that the
standard basic letter will cost R1,93 with effect from 1 April 2007.

The Postal Regulator used to be under the control of the Department of
Communications and has now been transferred to Icasa, following the
commencement of the ICASA Amendment Act of 2006. Amongst other things the ICASA
Amendment Act provided for the transfer of the Postal Regulator staff and its
functions to ICASA. Further details on the increase of fees and other related
charges are contained in the Government Gazette No 29585 of 2007.
