The World President of the Young Womenâs Christian Association (YWCA), Ms
Mónica Zetzsche of Argentina, will be paying a visit to the YWCA in South
Africa which is one of the oldest affiliates on the African content.
Her visit coincides with South Africaâs celebrations of the 50th anniversary
of the Womenâs March to the Union Buildings.
Ms Zetzsche will arrive on Friday, 14 July 2006, and will upon arrival
immediately pay a visit to the Constitutional Court and Commission for Gender
Equality on Constitutional Hill, the latter situated where the old womenâs
prison was. Many prominent YWCA women were imprisoned there such as Ellen
Kuzwayo, Joyce Seroke and Oshadi Mangena.
Afterwards Ms Zetzsche will visit Soweto and the biggest YWCA centre in the
country, the Dube Centre, to meet with members of the YWCA, young and old. She
will also visit the Hector Petersen Memorial site.
Ms Zetzsche will proceed from there to KwaZulu-Natal to visit a school in
Madadeni for mentally challenged children founded by the YWCA in 1984.
