Communications Minister Dr Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri appoints
independent firm to investigate the Post Office

23 November 2006

Following the latest developments at the South African Post Office (SAPO),
Communications Minister, Dr Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri, has appointed Mr A Maralack
of the auditing firm SizweNtsaluba VSP Forensics to investigate the
parastatal.

The Minister and Chairperson have agreed on one investigation that is
two-pronged. A letter has since been sent to the Chairperson of SAPO, Ms Phuti
Tshukudu, detailing the Terms of Reference for the investigation. This quicker
action was taken to avoid further lowering of staff morale and to restore
corporate governance speedily. The investigation is being treated with the
urgency it deserves.

The scope of the investigation will include, but is not limited to, the
allegations of all parties, corporate governance issues, as well as management
actions.

The Minister would like to assure the South African public that the
interests and investments that government has made in the Post Office will be
protected and that no individual will be spared if they are found to have been
involved in any unlawful actions.
