union leaders take train to work

Gauteng MEC for Public Transport, Roads and Works Ignatius Jacobs and
provincial leaders of the Congress of South African Trade Unions, will be
travelling by train at 06h00 on Thursday, 19 October 2006, from New Canada
Station in Soweto to Park Station in Johannesburg.
They will also be joined by members of the Portfolio Committee on Transport,
the African National Congress (ANC) Alliance and a South African Transport and
Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) delegation at the Metrorail Information Centre at
Park Station.
The entourage will then pay a visit via taxi to an Air Liquid Service Plant
in Alrode and later board a taxi to the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
The MEC's intention is to take media through a real life experience of the
daily trips of ordinary workers on public transport.
This is part of Transport Month and Car Free Day tomorrow, 20 October, as
well as the MEC's continuous engagement with public transport services in the
province, in line with government's strategic objectives of raising the quality
thereof.
