Gauteng Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Public Transport, Roads
and Works Ignatius Jacobs will officially open Heidelberg Road, in Heidelberg,
today. The road opening is part of the National Construction Week programme,
running from the 27 July to 3 August 2006, with the aim to outline the Public
Works portfolio.
The department has invested an amount of R140 million in the Heidelberg Road
Development Project. The project is 98% complete with the remaining works being
road markings and signage, the road reserve, borrow pits and hydro seeding.
The project started in April 2002. Since its commencement 18 sub-contractors
have benefited, made up of small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) and
previously disadvantaged individual (PDI) companies. Most of these companies
were involved at the level of material supply.
