Following the Transport Month and Car Free Day campaign, Gauteng MEC for
Public Transport, Roads and Works, Mr Ignatius Jacobs, will hand over
competition prizes to 10 lucky winners, on Friday, 8 December 2006, at Sage
Building, 13th Floor South Boardroom, at No 41 Simmonds Street, corner
Pritchard, in Joburg, starting at 10h00.
The prizes include Five Suzuki AN 125 Motorbike, with a Bali Helmet, and
five Sony Play station Portable (PSP) base packs, issued as an incentive to
encourage the use of lift clubs and ride-sharing along public transport modes
during Car Free Day, 20 October 2006.
"We are greatly encouraged by the level of response that our campaign
received this year, as indicated by the robust and informative debates on the
desired nature and type of public transport system that the millions of our
people have outlined on all public platforms. We believe that this campaign has
enabled our province to set a new agenda for transport, in view of challenges
of delivering an integrated, effective, and efficient public transport system
that is also reliable, accessible, affordable, safe and environmentally
sustainable. Ours is a rapidly growing province also faced with the immense
challenge of reducing traffic congestion on our roads, and reducing its
negative impact on the economy of our country," said MEC Jacobs ahead of the
awarding of prizes.
