I Cronje to host prayer meeting for safe schools, 15 Apr

Prayer meeting and torch of light for safe schools

12 April 2007

A special prayer meeting will be held in Esikhawini in the Empangeni
district on Sunday, 15 April 2007. The mass prayer rally, which will be
attended by 5 000 people, follows several incidents of violence and criminal
activity in KwaZulu-Natal schools in recent months. Spiritual leaders and
church members from all faith groups and denominations will be attending the
event, organised by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education.

KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC Ina Cronje and her department invited prominent
figures from the public and private sectors to join hands in prayer with school
governing bodies, learners and teachers from across the province.

At the event Eastern Cape Education MEC Johnny Makgato will hand over a
torch of peace to MEC Cronje. As Education is everybody's business, people will
also be invited to sign a pledge to commit themselves to safe schools. Details
of the event are as follows:

Date: 15 April 2007
Time: 10h00
Venue: Umfolozi Further Education and Training (FET) College, Esikhawini
