I Cronje to hand over new classrooms, 13 Feb

The joy of learning in a proper classroom

10 February 2006

Meet Mr Mthabhela - Ezakheni resident and now the proud builder of 10
brand-new classrooms in the Ukhahlamba region.

Mr Mthabhela said he is very happy that he could deliver a good service to
the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education. "Since I am a local guy the parents
know me and they are very happy with the work I have done."

Mr Mthabhela is one of a few fortunate people, appointed by the
KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education to build 653 classrooms in a fast track
programme to get pupils without classrooms into classrooms. The fast track
programme is an additional programme to the Department's normal infrastructure
plan.

Not only has the joint venture between the KwaZulu-Natal Education
Department and the private sector produced classrooms but it has also developed
and empowered local emerging contractors. For the first time the KwaZulu-Natal
Education Department has been actively engaged in the development and fostering
of local economic development and broad-based black economic empowerment.

The media have the opportunity to share the joy of children without classrooms,
who have now become children within classrooms. Also on site will be the small
entrepreneur - in this case, partially women-owned - who built the
classrooms.

On Monday, 13 February 2006, the media will have the opportunity to share
the joy of children without classrooms, who have now become children within
classrooms. KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC Ina Cronjé will visit four schools in
the uThukela district to officially hand over the classrooms to the
schools.

Transport will be provided from Durban and Pietermaritzburg to the schools.
Please confirm by Sunday, 12 February 2006, if you need transport from
Pietermaritzburg.

Media transport will leave at 5.30am sharp from the Playhouse in Durban.
