attend an open Discussion on âYouth and Human Rightsâ
2 June 2006
The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) would like to invite you
to the launch of the report on the âRight to Basic Educationâ. The report is a
culmination of the public hearings on the right to basic education convened
from 12 to 14 October 2005, by the SAHRC. The public hearings, which aimed at
promoting public dialogue among different role-players also aimed at assessing
the realisation of the right to basic education in South Africa.
The report, to be launched on 13 June 2006, from 9h00 to 11h00 at the SAHRC
offices in Parktown, will, among others, present findings and recommendations
of the public hearings. The Deputy Minister of Education, Mr Enver Surty will
attend the launch and also receive the report from the SAHRC Chairperson, Mr
Jody Kollapen.
You are also invited to attend an open discussion on âYouth and Human
Rightsâ. The discussions, which will take place after the launch of the report
from 11h30 to 13h00, would examine progress and challenges regarding young
people and human rights in South Africa. This is also in commemoration of the
30th Anniversary of the 1976 Soweto Uprisings. Young people from your
organisation are encouraged to attend the event.
