The National Department of Housing in partnership with the National Housing
Finance Corporation (NHFC), Absa, City Parks, City of Joburg, Gauteng Housing
Department and Alexandra Development Forum will start planting more than 600
trees in Alexandra Extension 7 from the 27 to 29 August 2007.
The tree planting is part of the Greening Challenge competition launched by
the Housing Minister Lindiwe Sisulu at the handover of a house in Alexandra to
Refilwe Makau, an 18 year old girl with disability.
About forty volunteers have been trained to help residents of Alexandra
Extension 7 to plant trees and in the process educating them on how to take
care of their gardens.
NB: Members of the media are invited to attend the planting of trees from 27
to 29 August 2007.
