Home Affairs on R Khalid deportation judgement

Home Affairs welcomes court judgement on deportation of Rashid
Khalid

2 November 2007

The Department of Home Affairs welcomes the latest High Court judgement on
the deportation of Rashid Khalid to Pakistan. The full bench of the High Court
this week dismissed with costs Ebrahim Jeebhai's application for leave to
appeal against the earlier decision of the High Court wherein the court found
that the deportation of Khalid was lawful. The court further dismissed an
application for leave to appeal the counter claim for contempt of court
conviction against attorneys Zehir Omar and Yasmin Naidoo.

This matter came before court during October 2005 following the arrest and
detention of Ebrahim Jeebhai and Rashid Khalid, both Pakistani nationals.
Ebrahim Jeebhai was released after he successfully challenged his arrest and
detention. Rashid Khalid was deported to Pakistan.
