New Director-General takes reigns at Home Affairs

The new Director-General of the Department of Home Affairs, Mr Mavuso
Msimang, today resumes his duties as planned at the department's Head Office in
Waltloo, Pretoria. Mr Msimang convened a Senior Management meeting to meet his
top team and to begin the process of acquainting himself with the daily
operations of the Department. This meeting will be followed in the coming days
and weeks by a series and interactions with all structures of the
department.

Management and employees of the department have welcomed Mr Msimang's
appointment and there have been numerous pledges of support in his task of
driving the turn-around of the department.

Note to reporters and editors:

Mr Msimang will begin interacting with the media in the near future,
following a period of briefings which will allow him to become familiar with
the detail of the Department of Home Affairs. In the interim, media are
reminded of a call by Minister of Home Affairs Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula that Mr
Msimang be given the necessary space and time to familiarize himself with the
work of the department.
