Statement on the High Court judgement on immigration
services

The Acting Justice Nel of Labour Court in Cape Town has granted an order in
favour of the Department of Home Affairs to prohibit immigration officers at
all ports of entry from embarking on a strike as planned with effect from 1
June 2007.

Justice Nel has also ordered the Essential Services Committee of the
Commission on Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) to consider Home
Affairs' application to declare services rendered at all ports of entry as
essential before 15 June 2007.

The Department of Home Affairs welcomes the judgement of the Cape Town
Labour Court. It will be business as usual at all our ports of entry.
