Home Affairs closes Cape Town regional office

Statement on closure of Cape Town regional office

11 November 2007

The Department of Home Affairs wishes to affirm that no identity documents
or passports were lost or damaged as a result of the water damage at the Cape
Town regional office in 56 Barrack Street on 5 November 2007. The damage was
due to a broken water pipe.

Work is being done to re-open the office in the next coming two to three
weeks. In the meantime members of the public are advised to visit the Bellville
office at 85 Voortrekker Road, Bellville, tel. 021 944 6400 or the Wynberg
office, tel. 021 763 6400, at 109 Milbank Road, to access the department's
services.

Also there is a mobile unit that has been placed in front of the Barrack
Street office where members of the public would be able to collect their
identity documents and passports only.

The Department of Home Affairs regrets any inconvenience that might have
been caused by the closure of this office.
