The Department of Health will unveil the details of the new National
Strategic Plan for Tuberculosis (TB) for South Africa for 2007 to 2011 at the
Cape Town International Convention Centre on Thursday, 8 November at 10h30 to

is aimed at guiding South Africa's response to the challenges of TB as well as
Multi-Drug Resistant and Extreme Drug Resistant TB.
The plan acknowledges the close connection between TB and HIV and AIDS and
the challenges of managing cases of co-infection. It provides for appropriate
interventions to deal with HIV and TB co-infection.
The Department will also provide details about the additional resources
allocated for implementation of the plan and the progress made in addressing TB
in the four focus districts with high caseload and low cure rates. These
districts are: Amatole district and Nelson Mandela metro in Eastern Cape,
